I’ve posted snippets from the road, but now I’m ready to share our full-on adventures and photos from our Shonali Bhowmik 100 Oak’s Revival tour down South…
Day 1: We were only about an hour or so out of the city when we made our first rest stop. I went in and got a Fish Sandwich from Arthur Treacher’s. I’ve never had Arthur Treacher’s. I usually made my way straight to the Orange Julius stand in the food court. It was very bread-y. But this coming from the first day off my low carb diet. I’ve never seen lemon juice packets. It worked.
I came out of the rest stop and couldn’t find our van. I tried calling some of the guys, but no one would answer. I really thought they ditched me. Turns out the van blended in with several other white vans.
Looks edible but, as with so MUCH fish-related fare I see nowadays…. it’s nuthin’ special.
Sadly, much of the oceans fish stocks have declined greatly with the biggest best fish very rare andd the existing smaller finny friends caught while still young.
Ask an Old Coot about the decline, for example, of the quality of canned tuna compared to 30 or so years ago.
The quality decline is obvious as is the much smaller, thinner and generally skimpier hunks of fish found on today’s sandwich offerings.
Often, Alaskan pollock is used. Their numbers are intact and appear to be substainable at current fishing rates.
Sadly, Pollock is in the opinion of many not as yummy as the cod of yore and other fish-types.
Sigh………..
Just another Old Coot reminiscing about days/months/years gone by.
