J. Christopher’s (Savannah, Georgia)

I’ve posted snippets from the road, but now I’m ready to share our full-on adventures and photos from our Shonali Bhowmik 100 Oak’s Revival tour down South…

Day 6: Morning to hit the road towards Atlanta. We stopped for coffee and ended up getting breakfast to go at J. Christopher’s …it’s like a Southern version of Denny’s. I was going to order a Doggie Bag off the menu because it sounded really good. I didn’t realize it was really for a dog. So I got the Big Bubba (Biscuits & Gravy, Eggs and Cheese Grits). Sounds good, but I still should’ve gotten a Doggie Bag.

Clary’s (Savannah, Georgia)

I’ve posted snippets from the road, but now I’m ready to share our full-on adventures and photos from our Shonali Bhowmik 100 Oak’s Revival tour down South…

Day 5: We made it through the Savannah party night. Matt, Jill and I went for breakfast/lunch at Clary’s. Freshly made Corned Beef Hash …spiced up so it tasted sorta like summer sausage. On our way out, I stared at the giant eclairs.

Leaving Savannah

image

Had so much fun in Savannah with our friend Wes. He took us to the neighborhood pool, dance party at his Hangfire bar, and fish fry at his home. Thanks Wes.

Now eating these Biscuits & Gravy with Cheese Grits from J Christopher’s …in the van on our way to Atlanta for more fun.

Jimmy’s Diner – Fried Chicken and Waffles

Holy moly. How come I’ve never knew of this place so close to me? Look at these Chicken and Waffles smothered with white gravy! Everything cooked perfectly. Three pieces (thigh, leg and wing). Add some syrup to the mix and it’s insane. The best cooked Deep Fried Pickles I’ve ever had. Crisp, not soggy. $2 Coors all day and wasn’t crowded (3pm Saturday).

Jimmy’s Diner – 577 Union Ave (btwn N 10th & N 11th St) Brooklyn 11211

Jimmy’s definitely kicks my homemade-assembled Chicken and Waffle Man’s ass.

Chock Full o’Nuts – The Original Nutted Cheese Sandwich

Before being a coffee brand, they used to have Chock Full o’Nuts lunch counters all around NYC dating as far back as the 1920’s. This is their first lunch counter/diner in about 30 years.

Sam got breakfast and I got their signature Nutted Cheese Sandwich (date nut bread & cream cheese). It tasted like what you would think date nut bread and cream cheese taste like. A simple sandwich. Makes you realize how much lunch portions have grown from back in the day.

A big plate of fries is only $2 more with a sandwich. Although that simple Nutted Cheese Sandwich is a whopping $6. Used to be a nickle for a nutted cheese sandwich and a coffee. Inflation.

New Daniella’s Coffee Shop

Had breakfast here with Russ and Dave this past weekend. Good, cheap, no thrills diner food and most importantly not crowded. I want to go back and try their tacos. They look good in the photo on the window.
