Union Pizza Works

Stopped by Union Pizza Works a while back for brunch, because it was clearly the easiest place to get a table in the area. Everywhere else was packed. I’m not sure why this place was pretty empty. Nice spacious spot. Good looking menu. My breakfast pizza tasted good. ello, Jefftown?

Arepera Guacuco

When Cafe Ghia is too packed for brunch, I think Arepera Guacuco is an adequate backup.

I got the Desayuno Capitalino (Perico (which is scrambled eggs with tomato and onions), shredded beef, paisa cheese, black beans and a plain arepa $10). It was good, but you know what really took it over the top? The sauces! There’s three sauces in squeeze bottles. Peruvian/Venezuelan creamy green sauce, whatever that is, it rules. Also there’s a orange chipotle mayo type sauce and a green chile pepper sauce.

Shit. I’d just go for the sauces. Can I just order a beer and the sauces?

Cafe Ghia’s Mofongo

It’s always packed at Cafe Ghia in Bushwick during brunch. I’ve come here several times and saw the wait, so I just left. But one time I came really super late for brunch. Got to sit at the bar. Ordered the Mofongo (Mashed fried green plantains with bacon, over easy egg and avocado $12). Pretty good.

There’s always walking tours of Bushwick art in the area. Pretty interesting. Bushwick used to be pretty dumpy. Now it’s a hipster street art scene and you see white tourists taking walking tours of the neighborhood. Kinda weird, but I guess it makes sense. There was an SNL skit about the gentrification of Bushwick this past Saturday. I don’t think it’s really like this, but I guess it’s kind of funny. …Okay, I just watched it again. It’s funny.

Northern Bell’s Brunch

Checked out the newish restaurant that took over the old Cheers Thai space in Williamsburg –Northern Bell. Brunch came with a complimentary Mimosa and a scone.

I ordered the Weekly Hash (pulled pork over fries, topped with eggs $13). Pretty tasty.

Rye Brooklyn Brunch

I had to pickup a package at the post office. So I stopped by Rye for brunch. Lots of girls there.

03 Rye Benedict - Rye Brooklyn Restaurant

I ordered the Rye Benedict (grilled pork belly benedict over buttermilk biscuit $12). Delicious! I like it a lot.

They have $5 burgers during happy hour that look good. I gotta try that sometime if I ever get out of work early.

Rye – 247 S 1st St (btw Roebling & Havemeyer St in Williamsburg) Brooklyn, NY 11211

And this is what I picked up from the post office –a Triple LED Guitar Strap! I saw a few review videos on YouTube, but they were all so long. Some over 36 minutes. I don’t have the time to watch reviews that long. So I just went ahead and bought the strap …and then made a video myself. Mine is only 17 minutes long.

Baoburg Brunch

I’ve seen Baoburg on a couple of best new NYC restaurants lists. I thought I’d try it out.

It’s a small little place. There wasn’t too many people in there for a place that’s a best of. Wasn’t too many people when I walked by during dinner service either.

I ordered the Signature Bao (two eggs in a skillet with chinese sausage, bacon, habanero peppers, cheddar cheese and served with toast $12). It was tasty, although a little on the small side. I think they sprinkled some balsamic vinegar on the eggs, which is a great idea. I tried that at home, but spilled too much on it. Ate it anyway.

The 5 Spot (Seattle)

In Seattle, we went to The 5 Spot as a family, including my baby nieces. They do an alternating city themed menu and restaurant decor. We happen to be there for New Mexico. So they had UFOs hanging up.

I got the Adobada and Eggs (Chile braised pork served over spiced red potatoes, with flour tortillas, avocado and eggs $9.75). Pretty good. I also liked my sister’s hash browns and her husband’s griddle cakes.

I’m surprised that the babies slept through it all.

Eastwick’s Slow Braised Short Ribs Hush

I really like Eastwick’s Slow Braised Short Ribs Hush (roasted potatoes, sunny side eggs and salsa verdé) for brunch. I’ve had it twice. It always seems to look different though, including the ones I’ve seen other people get. But good nonetheless.

It might look gross with all the juice hanging out at the bottom of the plate …or at the corner if the table is slanted. But dang, that juice is supposed to be sopped up with the bread and it taste so buttery good.

Brunch is $14 and comes with a Bloody Mary or Mimosa and Coffee or Tea. The Bloody Mary is nice and spicy with a salted rim. I like my Bloody Mary salted!
