Jody & Christa’s Wedding Luncheon at Aurora Brooklyn

After the wedding ceremony at Grand Ferry Park, we walked down the block to Aurora for lunch. Ah, they were very thoughtful to seat me outside …for the food photography lighting.

Russ wasn’t going to eat, so I ordered the fish for him so I can try it. Then that meant I had to order the chicken, which I didn’t really want. Crap. Luckily, the chicken was the best one.

Janet at Table #6 said I should have been at their table. I said, “I know. I got Broccoli Robbed.”

I was in charge of the iPod once more at the reception at Matt Torrey’s. I announced Jody & Christa to the crowd and went for the iPod to start playing their first dance, but it started reading out the names of the playlist in a robotic voice. “Jody’s wedding playlist 2” “Wedding luncheon” “Party mix 3” I think the more I pressed buttons to stop it, the more it read. I suppose if you ask me to do something, you must realize something ridiculous is bound to happen.

Bushwick Block Party 2011

Went to the Bushwick Block Party today in this crazy heat. It was actually enjoyable with mist sprayers and a hydrant cracked open. Some little 5 year old Dominican kid was dancing all thugged out to the heavy rock band, The Netherlands. His dad pulled him aside near me. Me and this other guy were looking at the kid like “yeah, rock on little buddy.” So the guy bends down to pat the kid and the little boy smacks him in the face. We both thought it was fucked up but funny as hell.

It looks like there are a couple of metal heads doing the pledge of allegiance.

FOOD: Free pizza generously provided by Roberta’s, unfortunately with an incredibly long line. A few other vendors selling meatless sloppy joes and ham sandwiches. There was a Arancini (Sicilian Rice Ball) Eating Contest brought to you by Arancini Bros in Bushwick. Some big guy ate 14 balls in 3 minutes. I went to go get a couple myself at the booth. I can’t believe that guy ate so many. One is pretty filling. But they were pretty good, so maybe it was worthwhile. I got Bacon & Broccoli Rabe and Ragu (sauce and cheese).

Ran into a bunch of friends which was cool. But Rusty and I eventually left early. Assholes were getting drunk and about to be stabbed for being a dick. Dang, giving hipsters a bad name. I don’t mess with Bushwick. Stefano took this nice photo of a Bushwick native taking away this dude’s watergun.

And speaking of drunk hipster assholes…

On our way back home to pick up some Grand Seafood, we saw this scary looking dentist office.

…and this flyer on a street pole that I really don’t get, pointing to two Indian restaurants in the area. The flyer’s disgusting. I don’t get it, unless it’s something lost in translation from someone who doesn’t speak English well?

Angelina Deli & Trattoria and Heavy Metal Under the BQE

Stopped by after to work to check out the Make Music NY metal show under the BQE. It was like Heavy Metal Parking Lot and Rusty and I were Beavis and Butthead. I didn’t realize there were Brooklyn metal bands. They were really good. Wizardry pulled out some double kick drums and a crazy stretched out fingered chord where the index finger slides up. Never seen that before.

On my way back home, I ordered the Godfather sandwich at the new Angelina Deli & Trattoria. New, but run by old school Brooklyn Italians. The sandwich wasn’t as gluttonous as the one from Graham Ave Deli, but more like if your mom made it for you. Clean cut and much less oily.

There’s some good looking food photos inside the menu. Not sure why they put that paper plate of fries on the back. That’s about all the shit talk I can say. I think Charlie the dog runs this place and he’ll probably bite my leg off.

Graham Ave Meats & Deli’s Godfather Hero

This sandwich is the big buzz around town. Todd sent me a link to this article on FreeWilliamsburg about the Godfather Hero at a meat shop in our neighborhood. When I showed up early Sunday, there was a line of people and a video crew shooting the guy making it. So I came back a few hours later. The owner was talking about how they’ve been so busy lately because of all the buzz.

The younger guy made my sandwich ($7). He put a lot of stuff on it and sauces. The Godfather is a very fine Italian sandwich, dripping with juices. It got all over my K-Swiss Tubes. Not that I needed it, but how do I get my sandwich even more stuffed like the photo on FreeWilliamsburg/Yelp? …Because that photo is ridiculous. Maybe they were running out of stuff. The guy after me tried to order the sandwich and they had to use some different bread because they were out.

…Willie’s Italian Special is supposed to be hot too.

Savino’s Quality Pasta – Cheese Raviolis

This place is always closed when I walk by, but I finally made my way to Savino’s during open hours. Couldn’t wait to try them. I’ve heard the raviolis are cheap, fresh and good.

I asked the lady for a box of 30 Cheese Raviolis ($5.25). She told me to grab it out of the the freezer myself. Then I asked how she cooks it, with some salt and olive oil or with marinara sauce? She looked at me stupid and said, “No, you boil them!” I knew that. I meant how she prepared them. I asked a container of their homemade marinara sauce ($4). That’s what I get for walking in with Rusty after a few mini vodka bottles. We probably weren’t the kind of customers she was accustomed to.

The raviolis were really fresh and restaurant quality. I’m not a fan of the marinara sauce though. A little watery. But at the same time, I can see how it tastes like homemade Italian sauce. It’s good in that sense.
