Forcella Fried Pizza

I met Yasmin at Forcella in Brooklyn. A relatively new fancy pizza place on Lorimer. We got the fried pizza that came shaped like a bird –Ripieno Classico Pizza Fritte (Tomato, Smoked Mozzarella, Ricotta and Soppressata) $14. Also got the brunch pizza – Pizza Alla Bismark (HomeMozzarella, Ham, Tomato, Egg) $11. With no more Motorino in the area for the time being, this did alright. I was able to bring a box of wine from across the street for the win.

Winchell’s Pizza & BBQ (Shokan, NY)

We went up to Woodstock for Ike’s 3rd birthday party. It was fun. I did a few more magic tricks. Little did we know that Ike was going to have a new baby brother that night. We went to sleep and Michelle gave birth in the bedroom. I moved downstairs to be out of the way and I could see the bedroom door opening throughout the night from my angle. I could see Michele’s feet. It was like out of a movie.

I’ve never been so close to someone in labor. I want to say it seemed so easy. I just go to bed and then a baby is birthed. Congrats Michelle and Dan and Ike.

Introducing Calvin Rye Forbes…

We were all going to go fishing the next day, but figured Dan should probably stay home with the family. The rest of us went. Didn’t catch anything, but did see a snake and a Wooly Bear caterpillar.

Afterwards, we hit up Winchell’s Pizza & BBQ. The pizza slice is huge. I really really liked the Onion & Garlic Deep Dish pizza. Tasted like a garlic knot that was a pizza slice.

Comet Ping Pong (Washington DC)

Day 11 of the Shonali tour: We stopped over in DC to visit Shonali’s sister, brother in law and two nieces. We had brunch at Comet Ping Pong –a pizza joint with a bunch of ping pong tables in the back. The restaurant looks adult-ish and I’m sure it is at night. But at that moment, it was full of kids at every table.

They have some tasty brunch pizzas. I got the Drive (Broccoli Rabe, garlic, Whitmore Farm Egg,
melted onion, Pecorino Romano, and Prosciutto). That was a good pizza.

Also had the Birth of Pain Bloody Mary with Scotch Bonnet pepper. Pretty decent. I don’t know if it was any spicier than regular spicy Bloody Mary.

It took Jeff and I a while to find the restroom. They are in the wooden wall.

Fuel Pizza Cafe (Charlotte, North Carolina)

I’ve posted snippets from the road, but now I’m ready to share our full-on adventures and photos from our Shonali Bhowmik 100 Oak’s Revival tour down South…

Dang, I’m only up to Day 3 out of 11 of my tour blogging. And now I have to go back to Day 2, because I forgot we went here after the Shiprock party in Charlotte. Pizza photos found on my phone. I know we partied hard. So don’t remember much about this, except Shonali gave me some candy that some older costumed Glow-Stick guy gave her.

Grimaldi’s Pizza Manhattan

I went out for a Grimaldi’s pizza with Mike and Sam at the Limelight Marketplace in Manhattan. I’ve never eaten at the Dumbo/Brooklyn one, so I can’t compare. But I must say there was no crazy line. Just a five minute wait for an outdoor table.

Pizza was decent. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait in a super long line to find that out.

Slices for lunch, basking in the sun amongst the loud traffic and all the people stopping to ask us if this is the same Grimaldi’s as in Brooklyn. One of the nicer lunches this week.

…They have three different websites. Grimaldis.com and Grimaldispizzeria.com hasn’t been updated for the Manhattan location. But Grimaldisnyc.com has. I’m guessing they have three different webmasters.

Crack an Egg on a Frozen Pizza

I think it was my friend Sam Zide that gave me the idea to crack an egg on a frozen pizza before putting it in the oven. I used my favorite frozen pizza –Jeno’s Supreme Pizza. The crust comes out so good and it’s so cheap. Splash on some Tobasco and dang, it’s awesome. The easiest brunch I’ve ever made.

TAPPO Thin Crust Pizza

Brand new fancy looking pizza spot just opened up near our office. A $5 lunch special?! Dang.

I got the $5 special (2 cheese slices and a free drink). Sam got the $6.50 two pepperoni slices and a drink. Mike got the $9 personal cheese pie, small house salad and drink. All the pizza is thin crust with crispy edges. The regular slices are bigger than the personal pie slices, if you were wondering. We were wondering. We saw a personal pie next to us and those slices are tiny. Pretty decent pizza.

Even though there’s a 2 Bros Pizza selling 99cent slices right around the corner, TAPPO is still a great deal at $5. I can’t think of any other $5 meal in the area at a fancy lookin sit down spot (at least fancy to me) …makes for a good business lunch.
