South Brooklyn Pizza in Manhattan

Shonali and Jasper raved about South Brooklyn Pizza in the East Village, where the old man makes each pizza one at a time and cuts the fresh basil over it after it comes out of the oven. Sounds kinda like the DiFara’s pizza I’m too impatient to go out and try. When I showed up, the old man was there. No line. The pizza was already out. I think it’s been sitting out for a while. It was decent for what it was. Margherita slice $4. Yeah, expensive, but maybe better quality than the Ray’s around town. I told Shonali and Jasper about my experience and they said every time, it was always fresh out of the oven. Yeah, I think that’s key.

As I was walking around with my slice, I could hear people go crazy with World Cup fever in the nearby bars. I thought people had already forgotten about soccer after US was eliminated …like they forget about Haiti …or Dre.

Carmine’s Original Pizza

Jody took us to Carmine’s Original Pizza, thinking this was the actual first Carmine’s. We asked the guy, but he said it wasn’t related to the Carmine’s we know and love on Graham Ave. I guess Carmine’s Original is like Ray’s Original?

The pizza was good, but different from the other Carmine’s. More of a stiffer solidified glob of cheese on the slice.

Famous Famiglia Pizza

I had to use the restroom so bad that I was willing to pay $5 for this slice of pizza. It wasn’t very good pizza at this price, but it was totally worth it. It’s interesting to read the Yelp reviews for this particular Famiglia. It’s like when Michael Scott takes the camera crew to Sbarro, his favorite authentic New York pizza joint.

$1 slice at 2 Bros Pizza Plus

The jerk chicken at 2 Bros Pizza Plus has quickly become my regular go-to lunch as of late. Only $2 for a quarter dark meat, this has to be the best chicken deal in the Flatiron area …or even city. 2 Bros for Life!

This time I tried their $1 pizza slice with Shonali, that every high school kid there devouring. It’s not great pizza, but good enough for most situations. I saw three pizzas come out of the oven, sliced up and sold immediately while we were in line. That’s how fresh you get it. I would say it’s worth more like a $2 NYC slice. Here’s a interesting NYTimes article about the $1 pizza slices of New York and how they do it.

Carmine’s Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

I gotta say, I’m happy to live near Graham Ave with all the good pizza places (Motorino, Carmine’s, Tony’s, etc.). This here’s a Philly Cheesesteak slice from Carmine’s. It’s deadly. Jalapeno on pizza rules, but I’m not sure this is really a pizza. Nevertheless, you’re going to feel gross and fat like after a drunk make-out. But you’ll probably gonna keep doing it.
