The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook

Dang, the new Mad Men season starts tomorrow night. I’m pumped and ready to down the whiskey.

I just got the Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook in the mail, courtesy of Judy Gelman, the author. It was actually unrelated to Mad Men, but I’m happy to have it anyway. Over the seasons, I’ve tried to follow in Don Draper’s footsteps with Chicken Kiev and Dinty Moore Beef Stew with a Budweiser. This book has all the recipes (including cocktails) from all the stuff they ate in the show.

I definitely want to try Sally’s French Toast with Rum. Maybe also try a Tom Collins at home. I used to drink those all the time when I first started drinking in New York. I would often forget what it was called and say something like “Collin Hanks” or “Phil Collins”. I remember one time I went to a strip bar in the Financial District and asked for a Tom Collins. They didn’t know how to make it and it was red. Well now I have the recipe.

Trader Joe’s Taco Seasoning Mix

I’ve used this Taco Seasoning Mix a few times from Trader Joe’s. It’s flavorful, cheap (79 cents), but burns your butthole so bad afterward. But maybe that’s more my fault. I looked at the instructions this time and you’re supposed to use only half of the packet per pound of meat. I was dumping the whole packet in.

So this time I only used half. It wasn’t as awesome tasting or as spicy, but my butt thanks me.

Pringles Cheeseburger Chips

Yes! The third and last tasting of the new limited time flavored Pringles Chips. We’ve had Pringles Cinnamon & Sugar, then Pringles White Chocolate Peppermint …and now Pringles Cheeseburger!

Whoa, this tastes like a cheeseburger. You can really taste the mustard and pickles. It’s amazing what a little seasoning powder can do. They should put this seasoning on shitty burgers. Make them taste more like real burgers.

This was the crowd favorite.

Pringles White Chocolate Peppermint Chips

Day 2 of the Pringles Challenge. Last time, we had the churro flavored Pringles Cinnamon & Sugar Chips. This time it’s the White Chocolate Peppermint Pringles. When pop them in your mouth, the smell hits your nose and the taste that touches your tongue like you’re about to eat candy. But it’s not candy …and then you taste the saltiness of the chip. It’s weird, but not bad weird. Just interesting.

Next will be the Pringles Cheeseburger Chips. We can’t wait.

I also found this can of Pussy energy drink in the office. I want to try it.

My Mom Made Me a Bowl of Ramen

Over the holidays, my mom made me this bowl of ramen noodles. I wasn’t hungry, but I ate it anyway. It reminded me of when I was a kid, my mom would make me ramen with bits of Oscar Mayer sliced ham on top. It wasn’t until around high school did I find out how cheap ramen noodles were. I think around ten cents a pack back then or less. It surprised me. How could it be so cheap? You know, I felt a little deceived at the same time …like my mom deceived me. That she was feeding me such cheap food. I didn’t hold a grudge, just felt deceived.

Howard’s Crispy Fried Chicken Skins

Todd brought this bag of Crispy Fried Chicken Skins over for football. He found it in a bodega in East New York for $1. He thought he got the white man price.

They were like pork rinds, just as I assumed. Maybe could have used a little more salt to keep me eating the whole bag.

Everything on this plate is chicken.

Pumpkin Spice Hershey’s Kisses

Sam also shared these Pumpkin Spice Hershey’s Kisses. The bag was tough to open, so I gave it a good pull and the bag broke. Now he has to put them in another bag.

These little kisses were awesome. They tasted like Pumpkin Pie …and I was just thinking how I would love to have a slice of pumpkin pie.
