Christopher Columbo Day

went to the columbus day parade. where are the zeppoles? where are the mozzarepas? so i go down to columbus park in chinatown. its a party of people that look like my aunts and uncles. i’ve never seen a place where old people hang out, play chinese chess, and yell at each other. its pretty cool. i kinda wish my parents, aunts and uncles could come up and hang out with them.

got to explore chinatown and try new places. dolla dumplings from fried dumplings. tom yum soup from yee eng home cooking which the noodles are just ramen. but their wonton with hot sesame sauce is awesome. i added the fried dumpings to the soup and it made both better.

overall i think i did well blending in. (overall rating: buddhist delight)

Fighting Does Not Taste So Sweet …or does it?

walked around chinatown and came across a bahn mi shop. the son and mother are fighting. i’m scared to ask for mine spicy. they have noodle soups that look good. i still like the bbq pork at my fav banh mi shop. across the street i pick up a pork bun. meat is too sweet and too red. looks dirty. sorry mama.

Pakistani.Indian.Arabic.Bangaladeshi Restaurant

while walking to a halal cart, i found two halal restaurants. both with $5.99 lunch specials. i try the one upstairs because it seems like more work to get to –i’d appreciate my meal more. a lot of selections. not sure if i had a choice for my lunch special though. i walked away with a very spicy and tasty meal. very spicy! poor tummy.

Pork Buns in Bushwick?

walked by this place that sells pork buns. is it ever open? knocked on the window at the china lady cleaning. is it open? why do you have racks of pork buns in the kitchen? why are there piles of scallion pancakes laying around? you not open? they ask what I want. ill take the only two things you make and make piles of when you are not open.

after a night of drinking, russ and i go to white castle to foodblog the new A.1. Original Slider. my favorite treat when i was little chinolam was to put a little A.1. on a dish, mix wif a little water –and eat with a fork. its as tangy as it sounds.

I’m Now Officiarry Chinese

stumbled upon the deluxe food market in chinatown. its a grand foodbloggin experience.  everyone is chinese. after paul mckenna made me confident, i stand up and say “bahk fahn” and “yut gah”. otherwise i have no idea how one would order if not a chinaman.  after seeming chinese they go ahead and charge me only $4.35 for my lunch box and scallion bun. “mh-goy!”

falafel sandwiches at pita hut. time to head over to dans studio for the little lamb recordings photo shoot with tigers and monkeys and justice of the unicorns. im surprised we get as many people from the band to show up. we rarely can get together for shows. jasper shot a lot of great photos. had a lot of fun hanging out. got a lot of work done.

A Day in the Life of a Food Blogger

someone put funny signs up to the deserted half built condos next door. my blog is the new curbed?

for lunch i want to try place next to good dumpling but still cant figure out how to order. back to good dumpling. this time they give me a lot of food plus tasty seaweed soup. with steam pork bun still $4.25! still can only eat half. thank you paul mckenna? good dumpling dont understand when i order pork bun. then i say cha sui bao and then they know i was lying i didnt know chinese. busted! maybe i should use same method at place next door?

rusty makes cubed steak with gravy and rice. we finish the night making rap music.
