There’s a restaurant on Bowery that has bats for their logos. It looks like an old DIY Gainesville punk band logo. Fortunately or unfortunately I didn’t see any bats on the menu. I got the roast pork and roast duck on rice and a bowl of their pork special congee (rice porridge that Chinese people call “juk”).

My parents used to make juk for me and I never liked it until I went to Hong Kong with them when I was 10. I brought back there Super Mario Bros 3 before people knew it existed and a NES cartridge that had 52 games on it. I was the most popular kid in school …until Super Mario Bros 3 came out here and everyone figured it was better to be able to read Mario speak any English. That and yo-yo’s became the fad.

Well in Hong Kong, I found out you can have juk with all kinds of meat, weggies and stuff including this fried dough stick that you dip in it. That was pretty cool. I wonder why my parents always made it plain with dried orange peels. I wonder if I’d like it that way now. Dried orange peels does sounds interesting. …Anyway the pork special congee/juk had pork meatballs, belly and liver. And the logo has bats!

Fu Wong Restaurant – 100 Bowery (btw Hester & Grand St) New York 10013

…this place was pretty dang cheap. Around $10 for all this including a beer before tip.
