Trader Joe’s Uncured Black Forest Bacon

Shonali was telling this low carb diet that her and her brother in law are on —http://eatingacademy.com. The thing is that it seems very high on saturated fat, making sure to add extra fat (i.e. heavy cream) to meals. Anyway, they do look pretty good and she says she’s lost a lot of weight from eating bacon.

So when I was at Trader Joe’s, I saw this uncured pack of bacon. It looked good and I’ve never bought uncured before. I usually think regular bacon is too salty. So this sounds ideal.

It turned out really good. Not so salty. I could taste the pork. A little sweet from the sugar …but that’s a no-no on this low carb diet. Even with less than 1 gram per slice, it might be too much.

Gourmet Guild Williamsburg

After our nice brunch at Marlow & Sons, we passed by this new grocery –Gourmet Guild Williamsburg inside a new building. The sign said “Free Demo”. We checked it out because I didn’t know what that meant.

They had free samples –smoked sausage, bacon, pizza, kimchi, hot sauce, soap, granola, raw milk cheese. All really good and are made locally. That’s their deal –local products.

I liked the pizza and the smoked meats. At first I thought I ate raw bacon, because I don’t think before I put stuff in my mouth. Luckily it was smoked/cooked.

Dang those smoked meats are so good, I took home some bacon, chorizo sausage and jar of kimchi. I slightly pan fried the bacon and dipped it in sunny-side up egg yolk when I got home. Dang.

Spicy Bacon!

Rusty happened to cook some of the best supermarket bacon when he threw a pack into a wok with onions and serrano peppers. It was so flavorful and spicy. So simple and good. But then he threw it all into a pot of chili. I don’t know about that. Well, it might have been my idea.

Bacon won it for the Gators

The Florida/Arkansas game was a doozy. I figured we needed some luck on our side, so I grilled up some bacon –symbolically devouring the Razorbacks. It worked and little did Tebow know what other higher powers were on his side. I’m not sure how we’re going to handle Mississippi State or Georgia. Where do you get bulldog?

No Bacon For Me

I got to the Bacon Takedown too late. But did find a taco cart on Bedford and Metropolitan. So still happy times.

I did go back to the beer hall and peek through the window. I saw the joy. Here’s some sweet coverage from the blogs!
