Burger King Mac n’ Cheetosâ„¢ Drunk Review

Okay, we were drunk last night after seeing Guided By Voices at the South Street Seaport. Saw a sign for Burger King’s new Mac n’ Cheetos. Went in ordered that and a Grilled Hot Dog we never tried. YOLO!

First the Grilled Classic Dog… decent dog for what it is at $2.29. No complaints, but not mind blowing.

Now the Mac n’ Cheetos… It’s deep-fried mac n cheese with the some Cheetos seasoning on the crust and made shaped like a Cheeto. This was pretty good. The crust was crunchy. The insides gooey with cheese. There were real bits of macaroni in there. Not so much of a mush that I thought it would be. Overall, pretty good.

Burger King’s Jalapeño & Cheddar BK STUFFED STEAKHOUSE Burger – Review

I went out yesterday to try Burger King’s new Jalapeño & Cheddar BK STUFFED STEAKHOUSE burger that I mentioned in my last post about novelty burgers. Fortunately the burger doesn’t look like the press shot, which looks a bit like Play-doh for the cheese and jalapeño bits. The cheese bits are melted in real life, which makes more sense. Made me think of the old Hormel Frank ‘N Stuff wieners stuffed with cheese in the 80’s.

The burger was okay. The jalapeño gave it a bit of heat. The Pablano mayonnaise sauce was good. Two of favorite things in the life: the spicy and the mayo! But I think I would have enjoyed it more if there were jalapeño slices and cheese on top instead, but that’s not so weird or much of a novelty. Wait. Are they going for weird?

The Jalapeño & Cheddar BK STUFFED STEAKHOUSE Burger is out now until Feb. 20, 2011 for $3.99. For the sake of transparency, the burger was purchased using an old gift card Burger King gave me.

Whatever happened to the Angry Whopper? Dang, that was pretty good.

This Week in Crazy Burgers

What’s up with this week in my Inbox and Comments section?: Crazy Novelty Burgers! Alright Cool!

Nick from DudeFoods.com assembles his own Japanese McDonald’s Mega Tamago Burger. He goes 2x! …Dude.

Speaking of Japan, Robin sends in a link to JapanSagoi.com about the novelty burgers in Japan. They’ve recently brought over the Burger King NY Pizza Burger.

(via JapanSagoi. I like the Japanese online dating ads. The girls are really kawaii! Also they just had another burger post today)

Speaking of Burger King, PR sends in this image of the new Jalapeño & Cheddar BK STUFFED STEAKHOUSE burger. The first stuffed sandwich from the HOME OF THE WHOPPER, it’s flavored from the inside out with jalapeños and Cheddar cheese right in the burger patty and then topped with creamy poblano sauce, ripe tomatoes and crisp lettuce on a premium bakery bun. It’s out now for a limited time until February 20th for $3.99 …Dang.

Finally, another mention of my new interview with burger blog, Peepmeat.com! I’m the one who was interviewed. Weird.

Burger King Whopper Bar’s NY Pizza Burger

Burger King sat me down today to eat four Whoppers and a New York Pizza Burger. I’m glad I realized I didn’t have to finish each one.

They invited me to the new flagship Whopper Bar in Times Square to meet one on one with BK’s Chef “J” Jason Sullivan and Vice President of Global Product Marketing and Innovation John Schaufelberger. I was little nervous to come meet them by myself …if I was being suckered into something, like how police capture criminals by telling them they won a boat and to come pick it up. I know what I’ve said about their fries and their hash browns.

They were cool though. Besides letting me try Whopper Bar exclusives –Meat Beast Whopper, California Whopper and BK Black & Bleu Steakhouse XT, they let me create my own. I went for spicy –jalapeños, Cajun sauce, angry fries, pepper bacon, cheddar and lettuce and tomato. It was neat to create my own, but it really didn’t stand up against their pre-tested creations.

In retrospect, the BK Black & Bleu XT tasted the best for the first few bites, but became overwhelming with the bleu cheese …or at least I should’ve finished it while it was warm. I think I’d enjoy finishing the Meat Beast Whopper with its bacon and pepperoni. It was surprisingly good for the couple of bites compared to restaurant burgers I’ve had as of late.

The visual highlight was the New York Pizza Burger. I expected a small burger with tomato paste, but this was a huge burger the size of a small pizza. “…four flame-broiled WHOPPER® patties topped with pizza-lovers’ favorites – pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and Tuscan pesto sauce – all on a 9 ½-inch sesame seed bun.” It’s not bad. Tastes kinda like pizza, but also like a burger. The pesto herb sauce gives it a nice flavor. They should think of adding that sauce to the Whopper menu. Don’t know if it’ll work on a regular burger, but it’s sure tasty.

The sharable NY Pizza Burger ($12.95) is a New York Whopper Bar exclusive and doesn’t come out until September. It looks to be an attraction not only for tourists, but also for the locals that are into crazy ideas like donut burgers and Double Downs. It’s not quite as wacky, but still fun …I just don’t know how they lay four Whopper patties on it, cut it into 6 slices without noticeable meatless gaps?

I did ask the head chef as I was walking out “How do you get all the onion rings the same size?” He said something about it either being pieced together or cut short. I’m not sure I buy that. I really want to think they take out the very one sized ring and throw the rest away.

Burger King – King Kolossalz Fries

Here’s Burger King’s (branded) King Kolossalz Fries from my grocer’s freezer ($1.99). I thought it was a toy at first. Microwaveable, yet still crispy because of the silver crisper interior lining of the box. Big cut crinkle fries, unlike anything at a Burger King. I think I like this better than regular BK fries, but that doesn’t mean I’m saying it’s good.

Remember years ago, when Burger King came out with “new fries”? I remember being disappointed. Yes, it stayed crisp, but it didn’t tasted right. I like the good ol’ days of hot soggy salty McDonald’s fries. My aunt will feed them to me with ketchup and I’d accidentally bite her fingers. Sadly, I don’t think McDonald’s makes them that way anymore. I wonder. Do people really want crisp fries or they only think they do?
