KFC Grilled Doublicious Sandwich

Pretty big night for my co-workers. We all went to see our new movie Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Bonds Beyond Time. I learned how to play the card game from this kid. He asked me if I’ve seen the show. I said yeah! He said how often? I said everyday! Yet, I have no idea how this game works. Then I sat there for 20minutes while he went over the basic rules. I still don’t understand what is going on, but the movie was cool. It was in 3D! I got a cool Associate Producer credit. I think my co-workers are more deserving of the credit. I’m proud of them.

Then I went with Sam to KFC afterward. I wanted ordered the Original Recipe Doublicious sandwich. A few minutes after, the manager told me they were out of Original Recipe, but they have Grilled. I really really didn’t want Grilled, but I didn’t want to try to figure out what else I could get. He could tell I didn’t want it when he handed it to me. I snapped a quick pic and took a bite while Sam was waiting for his food. I made the loudest WTF yucky expression. It tasted so gross. I think everyone in there heard and saw me. I turned around and asked for some sauce. They put some of that orange mayo sauce on it. It was much better.

Take your kids to see Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Bonds Beyond Time. It’s in theaters for a very limited time. Feb 26 & 27, March 5 & 6. http://yugiohmovie3d.com/

Brother Jimmy’s All You Can Eat Wings, Rib Tips & Beer

Guys night out at Brother Jimmy’s for Monday night’s All-You-Can-Eat Wings, Rib Tips & Beer for $20. People warned me about Brother Jimmy’s, but I didn’t think the food was all that bad. And especially at this price, it’s frickin’ awesome. Matt’s a veteran here and pretty much only likes the wings, but this time he said the rib tips were pretty good. I thought they were tender and tasty with extra Blazin’ sauce on it. The wings were a little too salty and I love salt. You get a two-hour time limit and the beer is Bud or Bud light. We did plenty of damage. We even went to an Irish pub after for more beer and to play bloody knuckles. Come to think of it, Brother Jimmy’s was well-suited for this dude’s night.

Cafe Medina’s Chicken Milanese Sandwich

Met up with Greg and Seth at Cafe Medina. I was frazzled, because I kept thinking the men behind the counter gave my sandwich away to someone else a few times. I got what Greg got –the Chicken Milanese Sandwich. Or I thought I did. His looked totally different, but he just ordered it that way. The sandwich had some boozy wine aroma to it. It had a quality ingredients but seemed a little dry. I should have ordered it the way Greg did.

Chicken Kiev to be like Don Draper

Went on a search for Chicken Kiev because that’s what the whole last episode of Mad Men was about. Through Menupages’ useful food finding feature —could go to  Brighton Beach and get taken down by the Russian mob or a fancy expensive restaurant where people might look at me weird for taking pics or the cheap and close Ukrainian East Village Restaurant (where I had the big combination platter) …the choice was easy.

$11.95, the Chicken Kiev came with two sides and a salad. I expected the butter to come squirting out when I cut into it. I was careful. Nothing squirted. Perhaps the butter had already leaked out when it got to me. Strong herb and garlic flavor. Decent overall. Oh yeah, and the food looks better when you’re not sitting next to the purple neon sign.

The New York Times wrote this piece about the Chicken Kiev fine dining restaurant that Don Draper took his date to –Jimmy’s La Grange.

Terry’s Gourmet Deli’s Chicken Special

Had the Chicken Special at Terry’s Gourmet Deli, where they have great Caribbean roti. The Chicken Special – two dark pieces with two sides for $3.99. Almost seemed like the sides were decided for me –white rice and vegetables. The chicken tasted like a fresher version of one of those microwave Oriental/Caribbean Chicken frozen meals. I could really go for a roti next time.

Alvbro Chicken Shaped Lollipops

Aaron and Leonore brought over these Alvbro chicken-shaped lollipops to one of our cookouts. They found them at a neighborhood Latino grocery. I thought it was going to taste like chicken. Instead it says peach and pineapple flavor on the bag …I think it taste more like chicken.

Look at that thick back on the cartoon girl on the bag. That’s some J.Lo shit right there.

I’m not sure what this is, but apparently it was brought to the cookout.

Soul Fixins

Was in some need of good soul/comfort food and went over to Soul Fixins next to FIT. I asked what the best thing was and the guy named all the different chicken (fried, baked, jerk, smothered). I’ve never had smothered before. It’s not a bad idea …pouring gravy over things. This platter with two sides is $10. 2 Bros Plus does some comfort food at ridiculously lower prices, but I think Soul Fixins is better quality and tasting …maybe by not that much.

Chicken Shepard’s Pie Open Face Sandwich

A couple weeks ago, Rusty was heating up some leftovers and it smelled real good. I looked in the pot and it look like a mess. Turned out to be Chicken with taco seasoning mixed with mashed potatoes. When we were trying to decide what to eat the other day, I really wanted that. So he made some and we put it on hard taco shells –a smear of the taco chicken meat, then a layer of mashed potatoes, and topped off with more taco chicken meat. I thought it was pretty good. Then we tried it without the mashed potatoes and it was a lot better.

The leftovers, we just dumped the rest of the chicken and potatoes in a pan. The next day we added more chicken and a can of corn. Put it on a slice of wheat bread, throw on some hot sauce. It was so redneck and really good.
