Padma Lakshmi @ Nespresso Event

Last year, Nespresso gave me about eight espressos to drink in two hours. I thought I was cutting back this time around, but I think I drank about the same amount.

Padma Lakshmi was on-hand to take us on a tour around the world. We sat as if we were in an airplane and watched videos and people talk. I really don’t know what any of that was about. I was so wired. I didn’t know what was going on. I’m glad they fed me food …as I can see in the photos.

I really do like this Nespresso espresso. It tastes good and I keep drinking it. I don’t think it’s as dangerous as bath salts.

All the espressos got me wired and up all night. I didn’t know what to do, so I made this mashup of Carley Rae Jepsen and Radiohead around three in the morning.

Tassimo Brewbot Popup Store & Cointreau Cinco de Mayo Party

Last chance to exchange any old coffee pot you may have for a new Tassimo Brewbot coffee maker at the Soho popup store. The new Brewbot is able to make 7 different beverages (coffee, tea, cappacino, latte, etc) by scanning the coffee disc automatically. The first 200 people each day gets to make the free exchange. Or stop by for free coffee and a chance to win the new coffee maker or a pack of mints. Tomorrow is the last day of the popup store Monday May 9th, 2011 –237 Lafayette (between Prince and Spring Streets).

If only that previous Nespresso event didn’t get me so addicted to coffee. I don’t know if it’s because everyone was strung out from Stinko de Mayo or what, but I almost got kicked out of this Tassimo pop up store a few times. One for looking too young, another for putting my glass in the wrong place and then for asking for coffee. Very strange for a press event. The robot was my only real friend.

Afterwards, I headed off to the Cointreau liqueur Cinco de Mayo party. Oh shit. I’m wondering if these press events are not really press events at all. But just a way to get me fucked up. Yeah, it worked. Stinko de Mayo. I’m still wondering my pants are.

They kept feeding me this cocktail. This is how you too can lose your pants.

Cointreau MargaDita
1.5 oz Cointreau
1.5 oz Silver Tequila
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz Monin Rose Syrup
1 pinch Chipotle Spice

Mix all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.  Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled coup glass.  Garnish with floating organic yellow rose petals.  For an added kick, add a chipotle and salt rim.

I Drank Eight Espressos and I’m Wasted

I went to a Nespresso event at the Nespresso Boutique in Soho. A really chic looking place. They were showing off their new Pixie espresso machine. The thing is ready to squirt you out some as quick as 25 seconds from pluggin it in. That sounds crazy.

What’s crazy is they didn’t cut me off after drinking so many espressos. Plus they gave me a bunch of food that had espresso in it. The guacamole had espresso in it. Even a mojito with espresso, which was surprisingly good. I was doing shots and double shots of #10’s and 9’s (intensity level). I rarely drink coffee, so I clearly don’t know what I’m doing. I think I must’ve had the equivalent of eight espressos in a two hour period. Then as I was walking out, everyone was trying to get me to eat candy.

What happens when you drink eight espressos? I remember harassing the Nespresso Boutique employees with a bunch of questions about stuff (I don’t remember if it was about coffee), I went home and listened to the same song on repeat for 30 minutes and was in the bathroom until 4am. At least the espressos tasted good.

TV’s Ted Allen hosted the event and British pop singer, Pixie Lott performed a lovely acoustic set. I was so buzzed, they probably thought I was a crackhead that walked in from the street.

Morning Call’s Coffee & Beignets

Nothing better than coffee and beignets after steaks from Crazy Johnnie’s. Morning Call was like stepping into the past. A couple of high school sweethearts sat across from us. They had heavy accents and seemed like they came into town on a date. It was like the 60’s, straight out of Archie comics. The guy asked me what my Cafe Liqueur tasted like. I explained it tasted like Bailey’s, but they probably had no idea what I was talking about.

For only a couple of dollars for coffee and beignets, take a date or hang out with old people. It was fun.

Coffee Jelly

Grabbed these Coffee Jelly packs from Jasmart Japanese grocery. When you peel the lid off, it squirts you with juice on the top. I asked my roommate Bonnie how she was able to peel it off without getting any juice on her. She said she didn’t. It did get all over her. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell her. The juice is what makes it taste like coffee. The gelatin is bland. It comes with a little cup of cream, which puts it over the edge. I could only eat two bites. I don’t know how to describe it other than eating bland jello with sweet coffee flavored juice and strong instant coffee creamer.
