On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina (Orlando International Airport)

My flight back to NY got delayed, so time to get drunk at the Orlando International Airport. Then I got hungry and ate at On the Border. I’ve never eaten at one. The prices were pretty decent for airport food. I created my own combo pick three for $11.99. I got the beef taco, chicken enchilada and beef enchilada. It came with complimentary chips and salsa. Not bad for chain airport food, but not really good either. It was a decent deal though to kill the time.

V Spot’s Vegan Empanadas

I came back to the Littlefield show after my awesome Fried Clam Sandwich from Littleneck. I wanted to see Summer Twins from California. They had cute girls in the band. I thought I got there just in time for them to start, but it turned out to be the last note in their set. So nothing to do but drink until we play. I remembered rambling on about Tebow with the Summer Twins. I’m not sure they knew he was.

Park Slope’s Vegan restaurant, The V Spot, set up an empanada stand. Shonali gave me a Black Bean Empanada. It was really good. Jasper went to get one and almost got the Philly Cheesesteak , but then realized they were vegan. He felt they should give you more warning first. I likened that to a guy making out with a girl who has a pee-pee. It might be awesome, but full disclosure, right?

I tried the Philly Cheesteak Vegan Empanada at the end of the night when they gave the last few away. It wasn’t so bad. It was stuffed with Seitan. Not as good as the Black Bean one though.

Then this band, Madam Trashy, rocked it like Soundgarden/Alice in Chains.

Jeff noticed that I was the only guy to play less than five strings on the bass all night.

Empanadas Paradise Argentinian Food Truck

I’ve seen this Empanada food truck a couple of times off and on at the corner of 26th St and 6th Ave. $2 Empanadas, Argentinian style. Thick, doughy and very greasy. The filling is very onion-y. I like it.

They also have steak sandwiches and roast chicken platters.

The Empanada I bought from the Doorman

I was walking out of the office building for lunch, when the doorman yells out, “I have pastelillos!” I thought he was hitting on the girls in front of me. So I don’t know why I turned around. “I have pastelillos! It’s like a big taco with meat in it!” That got my attention, but why was he telling me what he ate? I thought this guy hated me. “I have pastelillos!” I said, “Cool, where did you get them?” “I have them.” Again, I wondered why he was telling me about his lunch, but then I figured out he was selling them. I bought one, $3.

I heated it up in the microwave. Tasted like a bigger empanada like from the Empanada Guy that goes to bars and sells them out of a cooler. Pretty good, but I’ve avoided that office entrance ever since.
