Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant

Ooh man, Queen of Sheba is so good. I got the Taste of Sheba combination platter (tibs wot (9) menchet abesh wot (10), menchet alecha (11), gomen besega (15), bozena shiro (16), wot (1), and yebeg alecha (2)) for $24. I don’t know what all those numbers mean on the menu and I don’t know what those dishes are. Too much work to search for each description. Anyway Sheba tastes delicious!

But one thing! I know you traditionally eat Ethiopian food with your hands at a Ethiopian restaurant. But I’m thinking it could be just as good with utensils …and your fingers won’t be smelling like Ethiopian food the next couple of days …which isn’t a horrible thing. But what if you or your friend just took a dump and wiped their butt? I don’t care how good we just washed our hands. I kind of don’t want us to be eating with our hands on the same platter.

Bunna Cafe Ethiopian Lunch Special

I ordered the big Feast Combination lunch special ($12) at Bunna Cafe and when it came out, the girls sitting next to me were like “that’s as big as ours” and they were two people. They thought they got jipped. I didn’t respond to them because I was nervous. Then they asked the server why my order was so big compared to theirs. She said it was because I ordered the Feast and not just the lunch combination. I guess that makes sense.

Then I thought I heard the next guy to sit down next to me order the Feast. But his plate was so much smaller.

Okay, here’s what I think might have happened:
1) Maybe that’s just the size of the Feast. So get that. It’s a much better deal. A lot more food.
2) Maybe the chef made a platter for two by mistake. And since it would be more wasteful to throw it away and make another plate for one, they just gave me that.
3) Maybe they saw me taking photos of the menu and assumed I was food bloggging. So better make a good impression.

Anyway it was good food. Bunna Cafe is vegan however. I did miss the meat more than I thought I would. But it was still good.

I ate here because I just had a tooth extraction and was only supposed to eat soft food. But a stalk of the beets when straight into my gum hole.

Bushwick Block Party 2012

Dang, they really worked on making this year’s Bushwick Block Party bigger than before –more space for food vendors and getting Andrew WK to headline. This time they even had a security check to just get into the block (21+ and no outside drinks). I would say it was more of a mini festival to sell stuff than an old fashion block party.

Getting in wasn’t bad at all. I was at the front of the line in about two minutes. It was funny watching a girl pout because security wouldn’t let her in the re-entry without a wristband. She stood there for so long pouting, when she could’ve just got in line …and it was only about ten people long.

The line to get into Roberta’s was insane though. I think there was a dance party. I didn’t try to touch it. Although, I did get into the beer line and that was crazy long too. There was only one beer tent in that area. I felt like it was a 30-40min wait. At least I made friends in the line.

There was barely a line for the Porta-Pottys, which is strange because where did everyone pee after they drank all those beers?

I bought a plate of Vegan Ethiopian food at the Bunna Cafe stand. They do pop-up events and venues around NY, but this is the first time I’ve seen them. It was really good. I was standing there a little drunk and wondering why my fingers were so messy, then realized, oh yeah I ate with my hands.

I saw the Wild Yaks and I always love them. Also got some Andrew WK action at the end, but he got cut off by the police in the middle of his hit song and pulled off stage by security …as you can see in this video.

Meskerem Ethiopian Cuisine

Had the Vegetarian combo for lunch at Meskerem for $7.50. It was delicious. When they brought the bread out, I thought it was a napkin. It soaked up the sloppy sauced food well. This is a great deal considering most every Ethiopian restaurant, you’re going to pay for variety combos outside of lunch. Actually studying Menupages, I couldn’t find any of them with lunch specials with the exception of Meskerem. I don’t understand why Ethiopian food is so expensive. Didn’t we grow up thinking they’re all poor? Anyway their food is awesome.
