Eastwood’s Israeli Scotch Egg

Last week, I was at Eastwood to drink for Sarah’s bday. They had a pickup/ordering window in the bar. I got the fried fish, which I thought was good.

Then when I was leaving, Sarah’s was urging me to get the Israeli Scotch Egg. A hard boiled wrapped in a falafel with tahini sauce on the side. I took it home. It was interesting. I’m sure it would have been good if I ate it when it was hot. I’m learning all the time.

Oasis Williamsburg – Falafel Sandwiches

After our friends Ape School played at Brooklyn Bowl, we stopped by Oasis right next to the Bedford L stop. Perfect place to fill up your drunk stomach on a Falafel Sandwich. Only $3.

When we came in, the falafel guys were about to kick my friends out. Rusty walked in and dropped his phone and the case broke into pieces everywhere …and then he just hung out by the door, trying to prop himself up on the counter. The falafel guys were like “Hey, what you do want?!” and the older guy’s face was pissed off like he was about to bring a bat out. I had to tell them that I’m ordering for them (my friends). Dang. But understandably, they probably deal with drunk assholes every night right there off the Bedford stop.

Anyway, I really like the Falafel Sandwich here. It’s packed in size and in flavor. Asking for it spicy has a good kick. The Baba Ghanoush Sandwich is also really good …also only $3.

King of Falafel and Shawarma

I went up to Astoria and tried King of Falafel and Shawarma – 2010 Vendy Award Winner. They had their big trophy on display. Not such a bad of a line for lunch time, compared to the popular carts in the city.

I got the Freddy’s Junior (Chicken and Kefta over rice platter). Huge platter for $7. I like the pickles they put in there. Overall a very clean tasting dish. Not overly spicy. I didn’t feel like my butt was going to explode. That would’ve have been a problem, being so far away from home.

David Dondero @ Rockwood Music Hall

David Dondero is probably one of the hardest working touring musicians I know. I don’t know how he does it. I’m such a pussy when I’m away from my own bed for more than a week. He stopped by and we ate redfish Rusty grilled in the front yard …and I had a whole huge slab for breakfast already. Then after a nice nap, we went to see him play at Rockwood Music Hall last night. His songs sound like you’re on the road with him and trucking along through the small American towns.

Afterwards, we went out drinking and I got hungry …doy! It was insane in the Lower East Side with everyone walking around partying. I ducked into The Three Monkeys when I saw their lighted sign for a Falafel/Hummus wrap $3.65 ($4 after tax). It’s a really hefty wrap, the size of a Chipotle burrito. With the cool green cucumber/dill sauce on the table, it did its job at filling my tummy just fine while I watched partygoers stumbling around on the street.

Rainbow Falafel Sandwich

It was one of those days when I couldn’t decide what to eat. Walked around for an hour. Then I couldn’t believe it. No line when I walked by Rainbow Falafel –1:20pm this sunny Thursday. So I walked right up. Falafel sandwiches are up to $4.50 these days. 😯 It’s been a while since I had one of these. Not very bold in flavor, but great texture. A few people started to line up behind me, but still …only a few.
