Palace Fried Chicken

Late night in Greenpoint. Drunk and Starvin. I ordered the Italian Cheeseburger – two patties on a hero roll with fries and cheese on it. What’s Italian about it? The French Fries? It was pretty darn good. I think I made this sandwich in elementary school lunch with my tator tots and soy burger. Like how used to put the hash brown in my Egg McMuffin. I gotta start doing this again.

Quizno’s Toasty Bullet $3

Got a chance to try all five varieties of Quizno’s Toasty Bullet courtesy of their PR machine. It’s the 8″ version of their Torpedo for only $3 each. I planned on treating a few of my friends who were recently laid off to a free sandwich and perhaps get their opinion now that they’re on a budget. Well apparently they’re too busy hanging out on the beach getting shit-faced, while getting paid more than I do with severance plus unemployment, while I’m stuck in the office having to do extra work because everyone keeps getting laid off. I think they can pay for their own $3 sandwich.

So instead I treated two hard working friends to a tasting. Basically it’s Quizno’s quality in a smaller form factor for someone who doesn’t want a $5 footlong, but wants a big snack or small meal. Remember when normal-sized sandwiches used to be small? –maybe one or two thin slices of meat on sliced bread. Now we’ve gotten to a point where we expect to have a big ass sandwich or else it’s too small. Is that why everyone’s fat? BTW as I’m typing this, I’m watching the new fat reality dating show “More to Love” and there sure are a lot of food-based commercials like Chili’s 3 course dinners and “Julie and Julia” movie promos. Dang, I think I just heard the bachelor-guy do the fat guy breathing while handing out the roses or whatever.

My favorite thing about Quizno’s is the pepper bar with pepperchini, jalapenos, banana peppers and the redwine vinaigrette and horseradish sauces. Where Rob and Sam liked the sandwiches with less overpowering sauces, I liked to drown mine with peppers and horsey sauce. I suppose I could have eaten any variety and wouldn’t have known.

Thank you Quizno’s for treating my working friends to lunch. And thank you for cutting down portions and trying to make more Jareds. Anyone notice Jared is fat again or still kinda fat? Well different restaurant anyway.

White Castle Pulled Pork Sliders

Two fast food posts in a row! Whoop Whoop! White Castle Pulled Pork Sliders. It’s kinda like Trader Joe’s BBQ pulled pork in a tub …which ain’t really good, but pretty good for White Castle at 99cent. See ad and see real sandwich …like this cool photo article on ad vs reality fast food sandwiches.

Quiznos – Throwing a Torpedo Down My Hall

I played the Quizno Torpedo video game and they gave me a coupon for a free Torpedo after buying Torpedo combo. I was so pumped to get two Torpedos and then realized the coupon expired the day before. Still a good deal at $4 especially with all you can eat horseradish sauce and jalapenos.

Vegas Vacation: Monday

I had to do a buffet while in Vegas. Made a quick stop at Paradise Buffet in the Fremont Casino. I thought it was funny they had Japanese Miso soup on their breakfast buffet. Then I met up with Meg Ryan and Greg at Bay City Diner. How many times can we go to Bay City Diner? Let’s say at least once a day.

Off to Red Rock Canyon to get away from the casinos. We brought along firey red snacks like Flamin Hot Munchies, Fiery Habanero Kettle chips and Red Twizzler Nibs to match the scenery. I wanted to shut off my mind while I looked at the mountains. Ryan suggested having a mantra word to repeat. I started off with “pickle” then ended up with “Hinkle”.

After all the nature, we drove to an In-N-Out Burger. Yippee! My first time. We all got double cheeseburgers and fries. I see what all the hype is about. That’s one awesome fast food burger.

Waiting for my flight out at the airport, I ran into Jason and Paul from Yoshie’s Ramen & Friends separately. That’s whack. Small world or growing social network?

Super Bowl Sliders ’09

We all laughed when Springsteen slid his crotch into the camera. We all laughed when I suggested a White Castle crave case. We all cried when after we ate the crave case.

The one thing I came to terms with was Big Ben Roethlisberger. I know he hitted on my ex years ago. And I always thought wow she lost her chance with a Super Bowl champ. For some reason I always hated him for that. This was the time I came to realize that my old gf picked me over this awesome football hero. Rings or no rings, someone thought I was special. I feel grateful for that.

…I know David Blaine also hitted on her. I still don’t really like him though for other reasons.

Angry Whopper Fucking Pissed Off

There’s a new Facebook application where you de-friend 10 of your friends and you get a free whopper. But at the end, you find out it wasn’t a joke and you really de-friended your friends and it takes 2-4 weeks to get a coupon for a whopper. Fuck it! Me want Angry Whopper now!

Look how freakin awesome the ad burger looks

I would have to say my butt hole was burning just thinking about going to BK. But I did it for the food blog. I did it for the King. I did it for you.

Kyotofu

Yoshie organizes another Ramen & Friends outing at this dessert bar that also has savory dishes. The chicken & tofu sliders taste just like White Castle, but in a good way that makes you think they’re awesome. One time Rusty made some plain egg noodles with butter and coriander seeds. It tasted just like McDonald’s breakfast sausage but it was awesome maybe because it did.

Afterwards I meet up at Grace’s office going away party at Slate. Then headed over to Bar 13, but instead headed for the border.
