Chez Le Chef

Sam and I were trying to get chicken pot pies, but the restaurant we tried to go to was packed. Everyone wanted pot pies. So we ended up walking into Chez Le Chef, a French restaurant in Murray Hill.

It was definitely interesting. We didn’t know where to go and didn’t see anyone, so we walked upstairs to the dining area. Then we heard a voice asking us how many we were and then told us to sit at a specific numbered table. There were a lot of fake flowers and some cakes in the corner. It felt like we were in some old lady’s apartment, peeking into the back room. Then out of no where, walks in Chef Federic, who has this awesome white mutton chop and mustache, dressed in full on French chef outfit and tall hat. I was like “whoa… holy shit.”

We got the Prix Fixe Lunch special $15.95. 3 courses served in 25 minutes! I’m not sure why they stress the time. I’m not sure if that means it’s quick or hey, you’re going to be here for a while.

There was a Japanese menu on the table. I wonder how often they get Japanese people. I tried to get Sam to order from it.

I got the Pumpking Ginger soup. Pretty good. Sam got the Mixed Greens salad which looked good.

Sam got the breaded flounder fish and I got the Hungarian Goulash (special of the day). Pretty decent.

The desert plate looked really good. I nibbled on it.

I kept thinking the whole time that I want to go up to Chef Federic and say, “Chez Le Chef, you outdid yourself once again!” I feel like his look and appearance was just asking for it.

Chez Le Chef is really an interesting experience if you like that type of stuff. I don’t know if this ironic food blogging. I don’t know anymore.

Les Halles Downtown

Ross is getting married and we had a bachelor dinner for him at Les Halles (Downtown), known for Anthony Bourdain. I had the Planche de Grillades for one (lamb chop, hanger steak, merguez, steak, thick cut bacon, french fries, roasted tomatoes, provençal dressing; $28). That’s quite a sampler platter. I liked all my meat except one steak was a lot better the other steak (the one that comes with the Steak Frites). That steak (of the Steak Frites) is not that good. I asked for a side of béarnaise sauce for my fries. Yeah, that’s good.

The restaurant is sort of underwhelming for being associated with Anthony Bourdain, but very affordable for a New York steakhouse.

Congratulations Ross & Rebecca! …BTW, here’s the Michael Bay version of the meal, using the Michael Bayifier.

Vegas Vacation: Saturday

We stayed in downtown Vegas at the Golden Nugget. It’s supposed to be old and seedy, but it’s pretty touristy now. At least you can easily hop casino to casino. Plus they had the Knight Rider Festival.

We went back to the Bay City Diner at the Golden Gate casino for country breakfast bowls. They were awesome, but I’m sorry to say I had to cash out soon after. Could have just been the jetlag.

Back to the Golden Nugget where they have a pool slide into the shark tank. That was pretty cool. I think that was my first pool slide eva.

We headed to the strip. Took the New York New York roller coaster. Ate at this awesome French steakhouse at the Paris Hotel & Casino that Greg suggested. Steak Frites are the bomb. Get the classique with hotel butter. It’s better than the filet mignon with crème fraiche.

Saw the Titanic theme song fountains at the Bellagio and ran to the MGM for the Crazy Horse topless review. We barely made it in. The girls were cute. There were a few numbers where you only see their lower half. I was just waiting for the dancer to peak over at the end and it would be a guy. Hiiiiiiiiiii! …No luck.

Then Ryan found the best slot machine. You keep putting dollars in and you keep winning –chips, candy and soda. It was crazy how lucky he was.
