Sam Shady often brings Pocky to work to share. This is the Giant Strawberry Pocky for you.
Squid Ink Rice
From the people that brought you Pocky, a packet of Glico Ikasumi Squid Ink Rice. I know my Japanese friend Sam told me what the instructions said, but that was a while ago. I had to go by the pictures. I just don’t what 250g of rice is. It turned out pretty nice. Like Fried Rice.

Saburi – I love me some Tan Tan Men
Yoshie’s next eating adventure at Saburi. They have sake with a turtle. It reminded me of the Chinese wine with a snake in it at the department stores in Hong Kong. I almost got the turtle sake, but went with the other one with ginsing. It tasted like my aunt’s house.
I ordered the preserved duck egg. When the waitress brought it, it stunk so bad. But later I realized the egg didn’t stink. I think someone had farted right at the exact same moment she put it down. I was pretty surprised that the egg tasted like a hard boiled egg. Pretty weird that it did, but actually good.

Yoshie sets up a Ramen & Friends Holiday outing at Umi No le. I got to try a lot of interesting things. Dried fin of manta ray, squid in squid liver sauce, two-day cooked meatballs. I love pork belly and the fat. Then off to the dessert truck.

Kyotofu
Yoshie organizes another Ramen & Friends outing at this dessert bar that also has savory dishes. The chicken & tofu sliders taste just like White Castle, but in a good way that makes you think they’re awesome. One time Rusty made some plain egg noodles with butter and coriander seeds. It tasted just like McDonald’s breakfast sausage but it was awesome maybe because it did.
Afterwards I meet up at Grace’s office going away party at Slate. Then headed over to Bar 13, but instead headed for the border.
