Milanes’ Pernil Pork Shoulder

I forgot about this place since patronising Latin American Restaurant (AKA Leocadia Milanes). The Pernil Pork Shoulder is awesome. Nice delicious fatty bits in there that I don’t really find in the Latin American Restaurant’s lean roast pork. But seriously both need to put out some Sophie’s green sauce and the world would be a better place.

Family Noodle

I got off at the East Broadway stop for lunch on this Christmas Eve and came out of the exit where I always get lost.  I decided to stick with it and see what I can discover. After a little walk, I saw a window with peking duck, roast pork & chicken. Just what I had in mind. I got a generous plate of roast duck & pork on rice for only 5 dolla. Pretty awesome. That’s like the price of a VCD/DVD bootleg.

I saw them prepare some of the dishes behind the counter. It reminded me the time when I was little chinolam hanging out in my father’s kitchen at Lam’s Garden. I would throw peas from the peapods into the deep fryer. They slowly sink, then pop right up and spin around like a speedboat.

Lunch Box of the Day – Pork Belly Day 2

This time I went into Golden Bowl as the ladies yell at me to come into their restaurant. Like I said before, it’s like Curry Road on 6th St where they battle for your patronage. One time I went up the stairs on 1st Ave and 6th St and two different guys tried to steer me into their Indian restaurants. Then one guy grabbed the other’s arm real hard and pointed a finger at his face. So I went with the aggressor. He seemed to have more determination.

Flea Circus of Food

there is a lot of good food at the flea market. intrigued by the lady shaving meat off cured pig leg. its weird that something like that can be so fancy. take a stab at the one of the red hook ballfield vendors since i still haven’t gone to the red hook ballfield. i still dont know how to pronounce pupusas. i’m glad a lot of the spillage i see on the steps is really just quesadilla juice. i wish anthony and i bought white fur coats for our new band …i know. i know. i didn’t get a pic of the bluebird ice cream.

Party Prep

rusty makes his famous ham. the secret is patience, discipline, and heart.  …but mainly goya adobo.

i make a new invention –jason lam’s carb casserole. first layer is pizza wif mole sauce and mexican fiesta cheese. then mash potato and egg noodles w/ mexican fiesta cheese. third layer is cornbread stovetop stuffing. bake it off with mexican fiesta cheese. glenn gives me a good idea for version 2.0 –top fourth layer should be tator tots for a nice crispy crunch. i agree. i was almost going to put steak taquitos on top but that would be too ridiculous and not atkins free.
