Ramen & Friends: Sripraphai Night

Yippee. I finally get to try the hype …and that’s all it was. Harsh I know. But I’ve heard so many good things about Sripraphai (the most authentic Thai you can get in NYC) and the only differences I noticed from the Manhattan/Brooklyn Thai is more fish oil and less techno music. At least I was with Ramen and Friends and we got to try a lot of dishes –for that I’m grateful. Maybe I’m just bitter because I don’t know how to pronounce Sirprifiphi. Dang I can’t even spell it.

Then we walked to Jackson Heights for some Indian sweets. I thought eating the foil topping was neat and the spicy cashews tasted like egg farts. Dang I’m bitter.

I was just thinking how I’m going to write this post since I’ve never really written a negative one yet. Then a Simpsons episode came on where a happy go-lucky travel reporter goes to Springfield and it was his first bad review. Then Seinfeld came on next and Jerry got mad that his parents sent him a check for $50 –this right after I got mad that my parents sent me a check too. What is my 42″ plasma trying to tell me? …Jerry, your parents have all good intentions doing what they think is in your best interest. Suck it up, Jerry. And say thank you.

123 Burger Shot Beer – Slider and Friends

Yoshie found a place that had $1 burgers, $2 shots, $3 beers. It was also ladies night $1 white wines after 8pm. So I sprayed on some Axe and got ready to get drunk. The burgers don’t look like the pics and they’re really small, but then you get why they’re a dollar. We played with Yoshie’s new Sony camera that adds smiley faces. I wish I can add a smiley face to the sliders.

Then we passed a charming little bakery. They had fancy cookies like root beer float, mai tai and red velvet. They kept giving us samples maybe because we’re food bloggers? I got so stuffed. It’s good to be the king.

Ramen & Friends: New Malaysia

Down in Chinatown at New Malaysia for some Asam Laksa and Ducks Blood. Gotta try more types of animal blood. Rob & Yoshie pointed out how duck’s blood is in the vegetarian section of the menu. Funny. I love me the roti! Then over to Egg Custard King for dessert. I got the green cheese cake. It was green, but not sure if it was cheese cake. I love dan tat!

Saburi – I love me some Tan Tan Men

Yoshie’s next eating adventure at Saburi. They have sake with a turtle. It reminded me of the Chinese wine with a snake in it at the department stores in Hong Kong. I almost got the turtle sake, but went with the other one with ginsing. It tasted like my aunt’s house.

I ordered the preserved duck egg. When the waitress brought it, it stunk so bad. But later I realized the egg didn’t stink. I think someone had farted right at the exact same moment she put it down. I was pretty surprised that the egg tasted like a hard boiled egg. Pretty weird that it did, but actually good.

Ramen & Friends: Japanese Home Cooking

Yoshie sets up a Ramen & Friends Holiday outing at Umi No le. I got to try a lot of interesting things. Dried fin of manta ray, squid in squid liver sauce, two-day cooked meatballs. I love pork belly and the fat. Then off to the dessert truck.

Kyotofu

Yoshie organizes another Ramen & Friends outing at this dessert bar that also has savory dishes. The chicken & tofu sliders taste just like White Castle, but in a good way that makes you think they’re awesome. One time Rusty made some plain egg noodles with butter and coriander seeds. It tasted just like McDonald’s breakfast sausage but it was awesome maybe because it did.

Afterwards I meet up at Grace’s office going away party at Slate. Then headed over to Bar 13, but instead headed for the border.

Rocky VII: Ramen & Friends

ramen and friends goes to the west village. many tasty dishes. my favorite is the pig foot. but is it called pig toe or pig hoof? no it is called tonsoku. ramen broth is creamy dream. they should make pig foot ramen. that would be the king of the ring.
