Rusty Beer Battered Fried Shrimp

Rusty’s fried shrimp were a hit at yesterday’s playoff party. Devein the shrimps, toss it in a mix of flour, old bay, cayenne, adobo seasoning and beer to get the mix caked on. Then flour again sans beer for extra crunch. Fry in vegetable oil until golden brown. Salt. Eat. Repeat.

Rusty Mashed Lima Bean Sandwich

Russ wasn’t trying to be creative, he was just trying to eat dinner when he came up with his opened-face Mashed Lima Bean Sandwich. I tasted it and it isn’t as bad as it looks. Heat up a can of Krasdale lima beans, mash it up, salt & pepper to taste (maybe some Accent), slop it down on a potato roll/burger bun, and top it off with Red Devil hot sauce.

You know how kids like to eat disgusting looking things. Maybe you can trick them into eating their lima beans with this “Vomit sandwich.”

…I promise the next post will look more appetizing.

Rusty Empanadas

Rusty wanted to try making empanadas. We got orange Goya empanada skins, stuffed them with taco meat & Monterrey Jack cheese, then fried them in a pan because we didn’t have enough oil. It didn’t turn out crisp, but still pretty good like a fried enchilada. In the end we spent $16 and two hours to make four empanadas …they are ready at $1.25 each from the carts down the street.

Rusty’s B-day Pizza Party

Beers, t-shirts and pizzas for Russ’ birthday. Amongst the seven of us, we split 4 pizzas and some cheese. We all got beers. And it turned out to be around $15 a person including tip. Not bad for a high end brick oven pizza party. I’m now hankering for some of their egg brunch pizza.

Quail wrapped in Christmas and Bacon

Santa brought me Aerosmith Guitar Hero and I totally rocked “Dream On” and “Lovin in an Elevator”! For our Christmas supper, Rusty and I decide to make bacon wrapped quails.  We’re living on the edge! I thought I invented the idea, until I looked it up and there was a ton of recipes. Maybe I did make it up, but just a ton of recipes too late.

The Day After

rusty and i went back to the bar to pick up the tv. ended up staying for a few bloody marys and beers. i wish i had my camera with me. rusty looked like a crackhead strolling down the street with a big tv on top of a granny cart. good thing i was walking with him to make him look normal. or did he make me look like a crackhead’s friend?

we came back to all the stuff our friends left behind at the party. decided to make dinner out of it. rusty doesn’t want you to notice he is wearing the same outfit as the day before. so dont mention it.

Party Prep

rusty makes his famous ham. the secret is patience, discipline, and heart.  …but mainly goya adobo.

i make a new invention –jason lam’s carb casserole. first layer is pizza wif mole sauce and mexican fiesta cheese. then mash potato and egg noodles w/ mexican fiesta cheese. third layer is cornbread stovetop stuffing. bake it off with mexican fiesta cheese. glenn gives me a good idea for version 2.0 –top fourth layer should be tator tots for a nice crispy crunch. i agree. i was almost going to put steak taquitos on top but that would be too ridiculous and not atkins free.
