Maximilien Restaurant

My sister’s wedding rehearsal luncheon at Maximilien right next to the fish throwing markets in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. I saw one vendor across from the fish throwing selling a tiny bag of nuts for $10. That’s nuts!

Sea World Restaurant

Took a nice stroll to look for a wok and a can opener. Walked through the Chelsea Market and somehow ended up in Tribeca/Chinatown and found Sea World Restaurant? Like Shamu? I always get confused with where Shamu’s eyes are. Anyway Sea World Restaurant is a fried seafood shack. I got the whiting fish sandwich for $4.50. Three big fillets on sliced bread. This loud skinny version of Redd Foxx came in after I ordered. He got really loud and confused. Then he thought I took his fish sandwich when mine came out. I never found my wok or can opener.

Fried Porgy

I always see people getting the fried porgy at the NY fried fish shops. They usually douse the thing in ketchup. This is my first. Five dolla. The head fell off in the deep fryer. Don’t worry. It’s hiding under the body.

Ramen & Friends: Cinco De Mayo

We planned on the outdoor patio at Papacito’s in Greenpoint, but it wasn’t open because it was raining all day. So we went across the street to Pio Pio Riko. The manager was selling us on the seafood hard. He ordered for us this big giant bowl of deep fried calamari, shrimp, fish, mussels, and crab called Jalea for our appetizers. It was mostly calamari. We were stuffed. I think he was planning to order us steaks for our entrees, but we passed. We went down the street to the Mark Bar and played a bunch of Buck Hunter. It was a great deal for $2 for 2 players for about 15mins of play. I totally turned into a dude. Some of us picked up a few tacos on the way. They had Vegan Setien Asada Tacos! That’s clever and whack.

C-Town Grill out

We grabbed some fish and shrimp from C-Town grocery that we’ve always been wary about. We weren’t sure what basa fish was. We thought it might have been Spanish for bass. Jody and Danny took it on with lemon, butter, seasoning and dill to make it an awesome meal. Jody made some hardcore Papa John’s Garlic Butter sauce with fresh garlic and lemon. We dipped it with bread and it was delicious and strong. I put some of that garlic butter sauce on the Tilapia which is supposedly already worse than bacon, but if we’re going there anyway. I was impressed with the cooks. I usually only know about salt.

Good Crab, Bad Crab

Wanted to try Wo Hop for the first time, but once again the line was way too long. Went to Hop Kee. One time I came here to meet an old gf’s parents’ for the first time drunk after playing 5 consecutive games of beer pong. I couldn’t help it. I kept winning. I was just that good. I ate crab cantonese with them even though I’m slightly allergic (itchy mouth). Some of the crab juice squirted in my eye and it swelled up big and red like Hitch. I imagine I left some impression.

So now that I know the Secret, I took my chances with the crab once again. It was awesome. Later in the middle of the night, it was not so awesome. I had to run to the bathroom every hour for the next two days. When I sat on the toilet I thought it was odd that it smelled like patchouli. Is it this bad? Am I going delirious? Am I turning into a hippy? Do hippies have food poisoning? Turned out it was my new laundered underwear.

Many lessons to be learned here. In the end, the crabs were awesome and I might have gotten sick over what I had for lunch. It’s like my old friend Bill Brown when we got into a car accident trying to pick up a pizza from Papa Johns. When we finally did eat the pizza, Bill joked that it was totally worth it.

Rusty and I make our respective dinners and enjoy it during Kitchen Nightmares. Fried pork chops & mashed tators for Russ and beer steamed salmon w/ bak choy for me. Look at my meal. I don’t know if Chef Ramsey would approve.
