I ate this yesterday.

Rusty and I were watching the Denver game last Sunday at O’Hanlon’s in the East Village, rooting for our boy Tebow. Yikes!
During half time, I walked around to try to figure out what’s the meaning of life after I just saw Tebow get smashed, smothered, and diced. I passed by the Halal truck on the South-East corner of East 11th St and 1st Ave. I’ve passed there many late nights before and it always smelled so good. Most of the time I see a cart there, but this day it’s a truck.
Got the Lamb & Chicken combo over rice with white sauce, hot sauce $6. Dang. This is some of the best and spiciest Lamb & Chicken combo I’ve had in a long time. The rice is very similar to the Famous Halal Guys on 53rd & 6th. But I like this better. They put slices of jalapeno in there for extra spiciness. The chicken is not chopped up as much as most halal carts. The flavor was tangy and spicy. I just might have a reason to go back to root for Tebow tomorrow.
I suppose being a professional athlete has it’s ups and downs just like the challenges of real life. Maybe last week loss is just a stepping stone to success. I hope Tebow learns from last week and becomes the best NFL winner in the world. So keep Tebowing.
I like these guys because they’re nice and their lamb & chicken combo comes with fries, pickle and a falafel ball at only $5. It might be much blander than the $6 one a couple blocks away, but that place doesn’t give you a free soda anymore and made me feel stupid for trying to grab one.
LTZ Halal Truck – South East Corner of 30th St. and 5th Ave, NYC 10010
I don’t know if this is new, but first time I’ve seen this –a regular Halal street truck converted to Indian. You can still see the old breakfast menu (croissant, coffee) behind the Indian art they hung up. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala ($5) and it tasted like regular street chicken with mild masala sauce.
The next day, I brought Sam. I got a vegetarian Aloo Masala Kati Roll ($3.50) and it was delicious. Spiced potatoes, some corn and onion, wrapped in a greasy paratha. I saw them squirt lemon and season it before they closed it up. Awesome!
I pretty much forced Sam to get the Chicken Curry because they didn’t have the Tikka Masala ready, even though he doesn’t eat spicy food. It was too spicy for him and he ate a hair in it. At least they gave him a banana, but he didn’t eat it. I wonder if there was a hair in it.

Halal Cart on Broadway and 23rd St
I was picking up my cable equipment at the Time Warner office and passed by the Halal Cart on South East corner of Broadway and 23rd St. Lately when I pass him, his eyes widen up and greets me like we haven’t seen each other in a long time. I do remember going to his cart more often way back in the day, but that was years ago and I can’t believe he still remembers me. It’s like when the fruit cart guy on the NW corner knew I liked dates. Well, I bought dates three days in a row. Then the next time, he didn’t have them. I didn’t see him until a week later and he yelled out to me that he has dates, but I didn’t want any. Â Then a year passes and he yells “dates!”. Maybe even more creepy was the time, I was stumbling around the city and right when I put my hand up for a cab, a cabbie skid right up to me and tells me my own address. Maybe it was stupid of me to jump into that cab, but I figured at least he knew how to get where I was going.
This $5 Mixed Platter is one heaping awesome garbage plate …and I mean that in the kindest sense. Fries, falafel, lamb, chicken, peppers, onions, carrots, seasoned rice, salad, white sauce/hot sauce. It was already spilling out on the sides and the cart man asked if I wanted more rice. There some herb in there that freshens up the meat. Very filling. I can’t wait until I run into this halal cart man again.
BTW, cable TV is supposed to have a picture, right?
Midtownlunch.com: Street Meat Palooza 3
Zach came back into town recently and organized the 3rd Annual Street Meat Palooza of Midtown street carts. Lamb & Chicken over rice with hot sauce and white sauce. I think I did better at judging this time and did end up enjoying the better carts. I never thought my palate would be so distinguished for street meat.
Last week, I found another street food cart that has a Friday fish special ($5). It doesn’t look as nice as the last one I had from another halal cart, but this was better prepared/cooked. The spicy rice here was actually spicy. I was sweating balls.
Located on the South East corner of 18th St and 6th Ave. Manhattan, New York.
God Bless Deli’s Chicken over Rice Platter
Stopped into the 24-hour God Bless Deli in Greenpoint one late night. I ordered the “Special” Chicken over Rice Platter $5.99 w/ a free can of soda. It’s the heaviest carton of street-meat style food I’ve ever held. White sauce, hot sauce. It was solid. If anyone ever wanted street-meat food late night in Greenpoint, God Bless Deli.
