Chimu Peruvian Restaurant

I’m a big fan of Chimu’s Tallarin Verde con Skirt Steak (steak with green basil spaghetti and fried potatoes $19). The thing that makes it great is when you add the green sauce they give you with the corn nuts when you first sit down. Put all that green sauce over the steak and the green basil spaghetti. Make everything green.

I say this time and time again… More restaurants should have green sauce.

Northern Bell’s Smoked Dry-Rubbed Wings

Sometimes it’s hard to find a place in a hipster neighborhood to watch football. Northern Bell (see brunch) has the NFL Sunday Ticket with lots of TVs, cheap pitchers of beer deal and these really good smoked/dry-rubbed wings. We ordered it with the chipotle aioli sauce on the side. We did have the option to have the wings sauced up, but I realized that would look pretty gross with the yellow/orange/pink sauce. But dang, these wings are great!

White Castle in Williamsburg Brooklyn closed

It’s an end of an era. The White Castle in Williamsburg, Brooklyn closed. I remember taking my old girlfriend there for their candle-lit table service Valentine’s Day –waiting twenty minutes for our table, while watching the crackheads walking straight up to the counter to order their food. I remember when I first moved to NYC twelve years ago, they had bullet proof glass at the ordering counter. Then at some point, when the area was becoming more gentrified, they took down the bullet proof glass and renovated the restaurant. Then soon after, they apparently got held up and then you couldn’t order inside after midnight. I remember my friends and I hailing a taxi to go through the drive-thru for us. Then at some point the neighborhood got even more gentrified and then it was back to 24-hour service inside. White Castle is one of those places you can depend on getting something to eat when you’re really drunk super late at night, but then you’d regret it when you find the slider boxes in your bedroom in the morning.

An end of an era.

Hi Noodle

Now that I just moved from the Graham stop in East Williamsburg, I can tell you my little lunch secret. Go to Hi Noodle and sit at the window. It’s the best view in the area to people watch. And on a nice day, they have the windows open.

01 Hi Noodle Restaurant

What I like to do when I’m sitting with a friend is to put the timer for two minutes and we each have to pick one person walking by that we want to have sex with. If you don’t pick a person within that time limit, you have to have sex with the next person that walks by …which has led to some hilarious outcomes.

It’s a hard game because you don’t want to waste your pick on a doable person, when you never know who’s right around the corner. But then you don’t want to not have a pick at all, because you might have to do a crackhead that walks by.

The game rules are always evolving. Like a newer rule would be if you see Carmine’s pizza delivery van pass, you get a bonus pick. Or if your pick (outside of the last fifteen seconds) never leaves the view, then your pick is void.

I always get the same thing. The Green Curry Noodle Big Bowl lunch special ($8) with chicken, the salad appetizer and a Singha beer ($3). The first time I got this when they first changed restaurant names from Pagoda Thai late last year, this dish was horrible. The noodle was wrong (I think it was spaghetti) and the eggplant wasn’t cooked enough and hard. But now the Green Curry Noodle Big Bowl is really good. The coconut curry broth is tasty. The noodle is the right type of noodle for this type of food. The vegetables are cooked correctly. And the view is awesome.

Alright Hi Noodle. Bye Noodle.
Time to check out the restaurants in my new hood –Jefftown.

Northern Bell’s Brunch

Checked out the newish restaurant that took over the old Cheers Thai space in Williamsburg –Northern Bell. Brunch came with a complimentary Mimosa and a scone.

I ordered the Weekly Hash (pulled pork over fries, topped with eggs $13). Pretty tasty.

Rye Brooklyn Brunch

I had to pickup a package at the post office. So I stopped by Rye for brunch. Lots of girls there.

03 Rye Benedict - Rye Brooklyn Restaurant

I ordered the Rye Benedict (grilled pork belly benedict over buttermilk biscuit $12). Delicious! I like it a lot.

They have $5 burgers during happy hour that look good. I gotta try that sometime if I ever get out of work early.

Rye – 247 S 1st St (btw Roebling & Havemeyer St in Williamsburg) Brooklyn, NY 11211

And this is what I picked up from the post office –a Triple LED Guitar Strap! I saw a few review videos on YouTube, but they were all so long. Some over 36 minutes. I don’t have the time to watch reviews that long. So I just went ahead and bought the strap …and then made a video myself. Mine is only 17 minutes long.

Croxley’s Abbey’s 10cent Wings

I’ve always been intrigued at places with cheap wing nights, because wings can be pretty expensive at around $1+ at most places. I know that Croxley’s in the East Village has always had them, but I figured it was probably always packed. So they just opened up a Croxley’s in Williamsburg and they also have the 10cent wings (boneless) and 20cent classic wings (with bones). The deal is during Sunday all day & night, Saturdays 12-5pm, Mon-Thurs 4pm-1am. So pretty much almost all the time. Plus they are doing it during all the March Madness games. Sweet!

05 Twenty Cent Wings - Croxley's Abbey

I was thinking of getting some boneless and classic, but at 10 wing minimum per order (read the ordering rules below in the pics), I knew I couldn’t finish. So I went with ten 20cent classic with bones. They have lots of flavors. I asked the waitress what the “Fighting Irish” was. She told me not to get it. “It is gross.” I’ll trust her and just get the regular classic like a real man. They came out quick and were really crispy. Reminded me of how Korean wings are really crispy. Great deal!

I’m pretty excited about this new sports bar in Williamsburg. It’s huge. Easy to get a table during some pretty big games. Good attentive service. Great deal on wings!

Ben Sargent (aka Doctor Klaw) met up with me there for a drink. He had this really awesome red Cushman truckster parked out front.

Biblio’s Burger

Had the burger at Biblio near the Bedford stop. I added a fried egg on it for $2 extra. Nice tasty burger. Although, I’m still trying to figure out how I paid $40 after tax and tip for a burger and two beers.
