Northern Bell’s Smoked Dry-Rubbed Wings

Sometimes it’s hard to find a place in a hipster neighborhood to watch football. Northern Bell (see brunch) has the NFL Sunday Ticket with lots of TVs, cheap pitchers of beer deal and these really good smoked/dry-rubbed wings. We ordered it with the chipotle aioli sauce on the side. We did have the option to have the wings sauced up, but I realized that would look pretty gross with the yellow/orange/pink sauce. But dang, these wings are great!

Croxley’s Abbey’s 10cent Wings

I’ve always been intrigued at places with cheap wing nights, because wings can be pretty expensive at around $1+ at most places. I know that Croxley’s in the East Village has always had them, but I figured it was probably always packed. So they just opened up a Croxley’s in Williamsburg and they also have the 10cent wings (boneless) and 20cent classic wings (with bones). The deal is during Sunday all day & night, Saturdays 12-5pm, Mon-Thurs 4pm-1am. So pretty much almost all the time. Plus they are doing it during all the March Madness games. Sweet!

05 Twenty Cent Wings - Croxley's Abbey

I was thinking of getting some boneless and classic, but at 10 wing minimum per order (read the ordering rules below in the pics), I knew I couldn’t finish. So I went with ten 20cent classic with bones. They have lots of flavors. I asked the waitress what the “Fighting Irish” was. She told me not to get it. “It is gross.” I’ll trust her and just get the regular classic like a real man. They came out quick and were really crispy. Reminded me of how Korean wings are really crispy. Great deal!

I’m pretty excited about this new sports bar in Williamsburg. It’s huge. Easy to get a table during some pretty big games. Good attentive service. Great deal on wings!

Ben Sargent (aka Doctor Klaw) met up with me there for a drink. He had this really awesome red Cushman truckster parked out front.

Bait & Hook’s 25 cent Wing Deal

Bait and Tackle Wings

Suzy and Conner were in town and we went out for drinks after work. I was hungry and I saw a sign for 25 cent wings at Bait & Tackle on 14th St and 2nd Ave. Sounds like a really good deal. Turns out they will be having 25 cent wings during the first half of all NFL games. 50 cent in the 2nd half.

We were even there right when happy hour was ending and 25 cent wings were beginning. Bartender let us do both. Cool!

And it’s a pretty nice bar with big TVs to watch football and opened windowed walls …great for a nice New York day. Even if that means sirens going by occasionally and honking cars, it’s nice.

Another note: I had been eating wings for 4 days in a row. Guess what my fingers smell like.

Red Star Bar Food

We went to Red Star Bar in Greenpoint for a Sunday night comedy show. This is when we saw Reggie Watts three times in one week.

I’ve been curious about the wings here since they hold the annual Best Wings In Brooklyn Competition here. So I was glad to see that Elissa ordered the wings. Their Raspberry Wings won a People’s Choice last year. I don’t know. They were okay and sweet. I think I like their regular wings better though.

The Pub Fries look cool with a heavy load of melted cheddar cheese, bacon, scallions and sour cream. I think it needed some sauce though. Like gravy. Amirite?

The sliders were the best of the order. I liked dipping the slider in the cheese sauce.

The next Best Wings In Brooklyn Competition is a month away –March 16th. Get there early. The lines were long last time.

Dallas BBQ’s Henney Wings and Texas Size Bulldog

I haven’t been to Dallas BBQ in a long time. But I remember when I first moved to NYC, it was the place to get fucked up –with those Texas sized frozen drinks and half plate of monster wings. I mean the wings are so gigantic and steroid injected, you really only need a half plate to get full.

This time I went with the Henney Wings, made with Hennessy cognac. It was good. Sticky and sweet. Like a Honey BBQ sauce. I couldn’t taste the alcohol, but maybe because I was getting drunk on the Texas sized drink. Sam said he could taste the Hennessy.

I got a Texas size Blue Hawaii Bulldog …partly because I’m in my Elvis impersonation phase right now and partly because I like the blue and white swirls. The Bulldog was basically sticking a 7 ounce Corona bottle upside down into it. I was about to pull out the bottle from the drink, but realized that it would probably spill all over the table. I wonder how many people have done.

Sam got a quarter Rotisserie Chicken (honey basted). I can’t figure out how my gigantic wings come from that same chicken.

I got fucked up at Dallas BBQ.

Whoa, I just saw this on their website. Dang.

Dempsey’s Pub

I came here with Mike and Sam to watch the Jeremy Lin game in the East Village. We got to wing it up. Pretty decent wings, but the nice thing was the $5 big bowl of Nachos. I can’t tell if it looks big in this photo, but it was. That’s a good deal on nachos …even though they always get soggy at some point.

I can’t tell if I’m over Linsanity. I’m Lindifferent?

Lee Kum Kee Thai Sweet Chili Wings

I was getting Ryan his annual East Met West Chinese Take-out Calendar and I saw these big ads for Thai Sweet Chili Wings. Looks pretty good. Taste pretty good. Similar to sticky honey hot wings.

I noticed the other day they had the same signs up at another Chinese Take-out. And I just Googled and I see this chick posted several Yelp events for these Lee Kum Lee Thai Sweet Chili Wings at local Chinese Take-Out spots. She’s pretty cute. I wonder if she’s real? Like the film Catfish?

Buffalo Nickel Wingers Potato Snacks

Football has just started up and now my weekends are ruined. Tied up with Gator football on Saturdays and keeping up with my Kenan is Greedy Smurf Fantasy league on Sundays. I found these potato chip snacks at C-Town, shaped like little chicken wings. They had them a few weeks ago, but wasn’t impressed until I saw this bag with a Heat Index of 3 out of 5 …the Nacho Chimichanga. Previously, only Heat Index 1. For Week 1 of the NFL, this is a must have.

They taste alright, similar to BBQ Pringles. Crispy and hollow on the inside. Two thin shells glued together to create the chicken wing shape. I don’t feel the heat. Bring on the 5! Go Tebow!
